(Part One) The Escape

(Part One)
The Escape
The warm sun fills your face as you lean your head
back to capture the rays. Your eyes closed you let
your mind drift to the warmth that blankets your body.
You feel the sun upon you and the calm drifts from
your face to your toes causing a smile to be drawn to
your face. You clench your hands and capture some sand
between your fingers as the joy overtakes you. The
sounds of the ocean filling the air as if you're
sitting in a never ending auditorium and the waves are
dancing before you.
You open your eyes, and the view of the deep blue
water is before you. Wisps of clouds are lightly
scattered over the rich blue sky. A small child runs
down by the water, running from the waves as they
chase him back into the dry sand. A young couple
strolls into view. Their bodies reddish brown from the
sun. You glance to the side and see the beach drift
off into the horizon scattered with people and lined
with palm trees and coastal shrubs. Grass cabanas
intermingled over the beach, and a small local boy
wanders the beach selling drinks to the vacationing
visitors.
You smile again and take a deep breath. The smell of
the sweet salt water fills your senses. You look down
and take your sand laden cup of local juice. A
pineapple wedge floats in the yellowish liquid with a
couple fading ice cubes. You sip your drink from a
straw and the sweet and tart taste of the rum filled
drink quenches your mouth and throat. "Almost empty"
you think as a shadow overtakes your sun.
You look over your shoulder and see a man backlit from
the sun standing over you. His hands filled with two
glasses, and the shadows of little bamboo umbrellas
hang out of each. "Time for another drink Seniorita" I
say in a poorly constructed Spanish accent as I begin
to kneel on the towel and sand next to you. "I thought
I would refill our glasses, before the evening show" I
continued as I hand you a glass. You smile and take
the droplet laden plastic cup from me. "Show" you ask?
"Yeah... soon the sun will set and Mother nature will
put on her nightly show." I responded. "I didn't think
we should miss it".
You smile and think to yourself how wonderful this all
is and how warm you feel all over. "Cheers" I exclaim
and hold my glass out to yours. "To us... and the
moments we've shared" I say in a toast. "To us.. and
the moments to be" you respond and touch your glass to
mine.
We both smile and take a deep sip of our rummy juice
as I sit next to you on the warm beach. As I sit down
my glass into the sand I feel your hand slip over and
find mine. Your fingers wrapping around mine and hold
tight. I look over to you and see the sun radiating
from your smile and eyes as the perfect moment has
just been painted in our memories forever.
The sun fades and the winds calm. The night sky begins
to illuminate with the twinkle of stars as the deep
blue fades to black. We sit on the beach facing to the
west. Our hands entwined and each of us lost in the
moment as our hands begin to sweat from each others
touch.
To be continued....
